New for 2015
The 2015 Chrysler 200 is an entirely new and redesigned model.
Redesigned to Redefine
If there were ever doubts about returning to the drawing board and totally revitalizing a project, let the 2015 Chrysler 200 serve as a reminder of how much good such a bold strategy can do. While the previous 200 had all the makings of a good car, namely admirable fuel economy, an inclusive price point, and a sophisticated – it not understated – design, the all-new 200 expands upon all of that with a radical new look, a revamped interior, and exotic Italian underbody. And while the previous gen Chrysler 200 held its own against the competition, the revitalization efforts undertaken with the 2015 model allow it to push past the mid-size pack and take a real position of leadership. After all, who wants to get left behind in the dust?
Powertrains and Performance
The 2015 Chrysler 200 is available with two different engine options. The first consists of a 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® II four-cylinder that comes standard and creates 184 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. The second engine option is a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine that churns out 295 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque.
For maximum efficiency, Chrysler has wisely chosen a smooth-shifting, nine-speed transmission for both enginess. And while front-wheel drive is standard across all models, drivers have the option of adding an active all-wheel-drive system for enhanced handling and performance.
Speaking of efficiency, and thanks to the 200’s frugal transmission and industrious engine, filling your tank will no longer be a frequent chore. That’s because the 2015 Chrysler 200 boasts stellar fuel economy, with EPA-estimated returns of 36 mpg* on the highway when paired with front-wheel drive and 2.4-liter engine. All-wheel drive fans need not worry though, as fuel economy remains a respectable 29 mpg* even when paired with the 3.6-liter V6.
Choosing the right engine can be difficult but as a rule of thumb, being realistic about your current or intended driving habits will go a long way in determining which displacement best matches your needs. If all you desires is a commuter car that will get you to and from the office with minimal fuss, then the 2.4-liter is the way to go. It exhibits crisp gear changes and comfortable acceleration during normal driving, such as highway merging and passing.
Of course, if you don’t mind sacrificing nominal fuel economy for increased power, and if you anticipate exploring less forgiving back roads from time to time, you’ll want to consider the 3.6-liter’s strengths.
Features and Trims
The 2015 Chrysler 200 starts at $21,700** and is a five-passenger mid-size sedan that’s available in four trim levels: LX, Limited, S, and C.
While it’s true each subsequent model trim offers more amenities than the previous trim, the entry-level LX is handsomely equipped with virtually everything you’ll need from the get go. Standard equipment includes keyless ignition and entry, air conditioning, cruise control, and 17-inch steel wheels. A 60/40-split folding rear seat adds to the car’s cargo capacity, while a four-speaker sound system with USB/iPod integration round out its audio offerings. For tech lovers, there is an available Uconnect package that provides Bluetooth audio streaming and a five-inch touchscreen display.
If it is added refinement you’re after, the 200 Limited comes equipped with all of the above standard features as well as upgraded alloy wheels and unique exterior flourishes, along with an enhanced six-speaker audio system for a more robust listening experience. Limited drivers also get access to Chrysler’s Comfort and Convenience Group packages, which add everything from heated front seats to a rearview camera.
As you might have derived from its name, the S trim is the sport-tinged version of Chrysler’s revitalized 200. It comes with heated mirrors, an eight-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and satellite radio. Of course, what would a sport model be without larger wheels? Thankfully, that questions is answered for you, with upgraded 18-inch alloys thrown into the mix along with a standard sport-tuned suspension, instilling even more verve and dynamism to the 200’s thrilling road capabilities.
Not to be outdone, The S model comes with its own hoard of options ranging from an upgraded instrument panel that adds a vivid 8.4-touchscreen display, navigation system, and hands-free voice texting capability for compatible smartphones, to an upgraded nine-speaker audio system and auto-dimming rearview mirror. Drivers wishing to kit out their S model can also choose from 19-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot warning system, and full leather upholstery.
Last but certainly not least, the top-of-the-line 200 C includes all of the S trim’s standard features (minus the sport-tuned suspension) while making leather upholstery and a six-way power front seat standard. The C also gets access to an expansive SafetyTec package that bundles adaptive cruise control, a frontal collision warning system, and a lane departure/keeping assist system, to name a few.
Exterior/Interior
No need to avert your eyes from the 2015 Chrysler 200; in fact feel free to stare all you like. Easily its most appealing feature, the all-new Chrysler 200 is as sultry as it is sporty. With its low-slung, coupe-like proportions and chiseled frame, this is one mid-size sedan that goes the distance in differentiating itself from the pack. The 2015 200 has been described as the new face of Chrysler, and if it is—it’s one we don’t imagine people tiring of any time soon.
Equally pleasing is the 200’s redesigned interior, which has undergone a welcome transformation for the 2015 model year. Everything from the instrumentation to the dash is placed to perfection, while other changes such as the vehicle’s new rotary dial adds to the car’s modernity and style. Other flourishes like available real-wood inlays are easy on the eyes, too, and it’s hard not to admire the smart floating gauges and center display.
But it’s not all about style, as the 2015 Chrysler 200 proves it has the substance to match class rivals both in terms of comfort and utility. Need proof? How’s about a 16 cubic feet trunk capacity, which should make ferrying everything from groceries to luggage a snap.
Safety
Style and safety? Surely you can’t have it all? Well you can, actually, and the 2015 Chrysler 200 is here to deliver with standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver and front-passenger knee airbags. Worried about objects that may lurk behind you? An optional rearview camera is on hand to help keep you and those around you safe.
Still, if it’s more advanced safety tech you seek consider exploring the 200’s optional blind spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warning and keeping assist, and forward collision warning system that automatically initiates braking in the event of an imminent collision.
Bottom line
With so much going for it, there isn’t merely one area that highlights the 2015 200’s quality. Chrysler deserves a large chunk of credit for its radical approach to the 200, but the fact that the execution is near spotless should be the real talking point. From the attractive, eye-catching exterior to the modern and lovingly-penned interior, this is a car that exceeds all expectations. That it also features a vigorous set of engines that deliver exceptional fuel economy and pulse-pounding performance -- all at an attractive prince point -- is merely icing on the cake.
With the 2015 200, Chrysler has delivered a class-defining car that proudly places the brand’s banner atop its athletic shoulders and encourages others to come along for the ride.
The only thing left to do is experience it for yourself.
